Gta San Andreas Desert

The Desert Ranger is a proven myth in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

Description

The myth involves a Police Rancher vehicle, which is used by law enforcement when operating in all rural areas. One particular officer is known for his bizarre actions. The Desert Ranger can most commonly be found by getting a high wanted level, dying, and quickly going to a rural area. There should be small remnants of the police force still around, including the Ranger which will begin to act odd.

He can also be spotted if the player uses a teleportation glitch or cheat, but it is most likely a spawn error as dirt paths are still classified as roads, and the player suddenly popping in will force the game to spawn pedestrians.

The Ranger is said to appear driving in strange locations, like in Aldea Malvada, Arco del Oeste, and El Castillo del Diablo, usually in the middle of a field or a desert. This is odd, as pedestrians are not coded to appear in these locations. The SUV can also be seen driving erratically and crashing or grinding against buildings and fences. It can also be found in Verdant Meadows, Mike Toreno's Ranch and in Bayside, San Fierro. Cars can drive into these locations, making these unlikely. The weirdest places it can be found is in Back O' Beyond. It is unknown why this police vehicle appears in these places.

This can easily be solved by looking at the code of the Rangers. They have an interesting line of code where they are allowed to go off-road. This is to ensure the player decides to go off-roading, the Rangers will follow close behind.

The reason they crash is a little inconsistent. Sometimes they will drive on the dirt roads just fine, and others, they will almost act possessed.

Police Officer

Players also report seeing the police officer behaving strangely similar. These vary from him killing pedestrians, shooting at the player, and even walking off and leading players to discovering a myth or Easter egg. None of these claims have been confirmed.

Trivia

  • Area-dedicated officers can sometimes be seen in other areas, for example, a San Fierro officer can be seen in Los Santos.
  • Military soldiers can also be seen in any city, sometimes due to escaping a high wanted level.
  • Sometimes pedestrians' cars may drive on this road, like the Desert Ranger.
  • By pushing a Ped's car into the dirt road will make them drive on it, regardless of the vehicle or NPC.
  • Respawning after a chase (e.g dying with 5 stars) and spawning in a place where a different class of officers reside (e.g Desert Ranger in Los Stantos) will result in that certain NPC driving in that area for a while.

Discussions about Desert Ranger

  • Lone Ranger Sighting

    • So I was playing DYOM, and I was playing a mission that has no traffic in it. Anyways, I saw some vehicles, the Lone Ranger's Ranger, an...
    • Maybe the ranger accidently drove off the cliff and landed upside down and escaped the car before it exploded,if you see no crashed cars, maybe ...

    • I used the same cheat around the ghost lake. They will head away from town.

Learning to Fly[edit]

To access these missions, go to the office up the stairs around the side of the building and step on the red marker near the TV inside.

What follows is a series of tests that you will have to pass in order to proceed. Your flight skill will improve with each pass. The tests are:

1. Takeoff: Follow the onscreen instructions to complete a takeoff. The idea here is small movements. Don't yank back on the stick, or you will stall out your plane. Maneuver through the course of three coronas to pass.

2. Land Plane: A 70% or better is required to pass. This one is pretty simple... just follow the onscreen instructions to pass.

3. Circle Airstrip: There are two courses, clockwise and counterclockwise. Pick one and take off, heading toward the first corona. As you pass through it, bank slightly by pressing RIGHT or LEFT (depending on the position of the next ring) and press the same direction's rudder control--R2 for right and L2 for left--to turn to the next corona. This requires some practice, so don't worry if you have to retry a couple times. Again, small movements are best.

4. Circle Airstrip and Land: This combines tests 2 and 3. Don't forget to put down your landing gear before landing! You must get as close to the marker when landing as possible to earn the necessary 70%.

5. Helicopter Takeoff: Follow the onscreen instructions to earn at least a 70%.

6. Land Helicopter: This is another fairly easy challenge. Follow the instructions to do it... pay special attention to when the game tells you to stop pressing buttons.

7. Destroy Targets: Use what you learned the two previous missions to maneuver the craft. Move to the far end of the runway and blast using a steady stream of rockets. These three targets should be fairly easy to take down. After this, you'll have to chase moving targets on the opposite end of the strip. Fly over there, tilt down, and shower them with rockets. Adjust according to where the last barrage hit. Return to the airstrip and slow down near the red marker. Drop down inside it softly to score well.

8. Loop-the-Loop: Although it seems like it should be difficult, this one is just a matter of following instructions carefully and executing them.

9. Barrel Roll: When the game says 'directly left' it means it. If you don't press directly left on the analog, the plane will fly all weird and make it tough for you to recover from your roll.

10. Parachute Onto Target: Look at the target way below and push forward towards it while in the air. Open the parachute when told to and maneuver onto the target. If you feel like you won't quite make it, pull back on the left analog to speed up a bit. Use the right analog to see your position relative to the ground. The closer you get to the center of the target, the better.

Once you complete the mission, the rest of the Airstrip missions will become available. Head to the airplane icon on the tarmac to trigger them.

Note: Upon completing this mission, you will get a cell phone call from Woozie. He invites you to join him at the Four Dragons Casino in Las Venturas. A yellow icon will appear on the map. You can head over there now to forward the story, or stay here and finish the Airstrip stuff, as you'll need it to open stuff down the road in Las Venturas anyway.

N.O.E.[edit]

Toreno returns for yet another mission. Now that you can fly, he needs you to pilot some goods to a spot in Angel Pine. The catch? You have to fly below radar the entire time. Of course, there is a Visibility meter on the right edge of the screen to measure how much of a ruckus you're raising in your plane.

You'll want to avoid going over any high ground or mountains, because if you raise the Visibility gauge to the top, planes will be sent to bring you down. They shoot missiles, too, which can really cramp your style. If a rocket is shot against you, dive to avoid it.

Fly west, then south to fly over the bay next to San Fierro, then quickly cut across to the ocean all the way to the west. Fly around the southern point and toward the yellow marker above Angel Pine. Once you get there, go through the red corona to trigger the drop. When that's done, a new blip will appear on the radar... back at the airstrip. Fly back there moving low over the ocean. Go all the way north then east, and south to the airstrip. As you approach, drop your speed, activate your landing gear and land softly anywhere on the airstrip. Doing so will yield a $15,000 reward.

Stowaway[edit]

Step on the red marker on the airstrip and watch the cutscene. Toreno needs you to get on the plane that lands and plant a bomb on it. Get to it!

There's no need to be low-key about it. Get on the motorcycle nearby and accelerate behind the plane. It will drop crates as it takes off, so you'll have to dodge those. Floor it to the ramp and get aboard before it takes off, or you'll be left behind, failing the mission.

Once onboard the plane, watch out for rolling barrels as you make your way up the center aisle. Wait for the barrels to roll past, and duck into the side passages to avoid getting bowled over. Take on the guards with hand-to-hand combat as you fight your way forward. The guy you ultimately want to put down is the one wearing the parachute. When he falls, he'll drop it. Put it on.

Place a satchel charge anywhere on the plane and run out the back. Coast down for awhile then open your chute and drift down to earth. Finishing the mission will earn $20,000. Land and get back to the airstrip.

Black Project[edit]

This is a fun one. It must be nighttime to trigger this one (between 20:00 and 6:00). Your old friend The Truth will return and explain things... apparently he is less batty and more connected than earlier expected. He takes you outside of a secret military base called Area 69. Your goal is to get a secret device stored within.

First, you'll need to open the blast doors from a position on the control tower. The problem is, the entire yard is being swept by searchlights. If you get seen by them, the blast doors will go on lockdown and you'll need to gain entry a different way. Problem is, you have to gain entry before 5:30, so you'll have to move fast.

Airport

Go near the open door and snipe the first two guards in this area. Move forward and snag the Body Armor, and target and drop any guards in the yard that you can see. Turn to the right and snipe the guard on the right tower. Move even higher and snipe out the searchbeam above. Go up the tower and take down the guards on the towers to the left, and anyone else you see in the yard below. Return to the ground and head to the southwest corner of the compound.

From here, avoid the light as you move along the fence and get near the control tower (the yellow blip). Get up into the control tower and step on the red marker to see a cut scene of the doors opening. Once this happens, you have limited time to get to the doors. Go north from the tower and around the low buildings here. Move to the middle of the Area to find the ramp leading down into the lab.

Note: If you are seen by a spotlight, the whole place will go Condition Blue. Avoid the spotlight again, or the Area will go to Condition Red. If this happens, you'll have to go to Plan B.

If you need to go to the vent, it isn't that big of a deal. Just target nearby red blips with the sniper rifle and take them down as you move to the yellow blip (the vent). Once you get there, damage the vent and climb inside.

Regardless of how you get inside, you will arrive in the same place. A cut scene will play telling you to make it to the lab, and showing you the locations of several military guards. You don't need to be too worried about being stealthy, here. The place is already at Condition Red, so blasting a lot isn't going to be a problem. Just make sure you crouch and use cover, as always. Move through the nearby door and kill the guard in the next room. Up a ramp to the right, you'll find a Body Armor and Minigun in a glassed-in room. Grab them and go nuts on the guards in the room below.

Move toward the yellow blip into the next room, which is full of catwalks and military folk. Mow them down, collect their weapons and move on. There is a Body Armor in the next area. Grab it and continue around the perimeter and find the radar room. Inside are two scientists. Waste them and move to the red marker to take down the SAM site. This is important to secure your escape.

Return to the catwalk room and go to the bottom of it. On the far side of the room is a hallway lined with yellow warning paint. Nearby is an open tile in the floor. Drop down there and grab a Heart and Body Armor. Proceed to the ramp at the end to pull yourself out of there. Go up the stairs under the Research Section A sign painted on the wall. Battle through the guards and make your way toward the yellow blip on the mini-map. As you approach, you'll be told to find a keycard. In the lab to the left is another Body Armor. As you move toward the scientist here, he'll drop a Keycard. Take it and move to the red marker in the corner.

Gta San Andreas Desert Missions

Guards will now crowd the hall. You know the drill. Target and blast them as you move down the stairs. Keep an eye on your health as you wind down the stairs. When you reach the bottom, grab the black project--a Jetpack. Don it and fly directly up and out of the silo. If you didn't disable the SAM, you'll be throttled by missile fire.

Ascend to the level you desire and press a direction to move that way. While using the jetpack, you can rock any single-handed weapon. You won't need to in this case. Just pilot yourself over to the yellow blip on the mini-map. Rendezvous with The Truth at Arco del Oeste. When the cut scene concludes, ride the motorbike back to the Airstrip (after getting The Truth's cell call).

Green Goo[edit]

The final Airstrip mission, this one also involves The Truth... and you get to spend some more time with the jetpack. He wants you to take off after a train... and steal whatever 'they' least want you to get. The train is marked by a green blip on the radar, so take off after it.

When you get in range, hover in the air (R2+L2) and pick off the guards on the train. When they're eliminated, start blasting the actual crates (marked by green arrows). Don't be bashful about landing on the train itself and getting right next to the crate before destroying it. One of the crates contains the Green Goo. Grab it and head back to The Truth at the airstrip.

Finishing this mission will make the Airstrip a money-earning enterprise. Stop back when you can to collect the money you earn... a maximum of $10,000. The jetpack will also hover nearby the save point. This completes the Airstrip missions. Head to Las Venturas to start the Casino missions.
